ISO 45001 (ISO
45001-2017)previously expected in October 2016, the ISO 45001 (ISO 45001-2017)release
will be delayed, as the first draft of the standard was disapproved.
Â
The Draft International Standards (DIS) of
ISO 45001-2016 was expected to be released in the year 2016, but was not
approved, and now it is expected to be released in June 2017. Our senior team
expect that now ISO 45001 (ISO 45001-2017)may be approved between December 2017
to March 2018.
Â
Approval and Implementation of new
standards ISO 45001 (ISO 45001-2017)may open new opportunity for the lead
auditor, consultant due to transition work of all firm which are currently
certified under OHSAS 18001-2007 and shall upgrade / transition to ISO 45001
(ISO 45001-2017)which is expected to be ISO 45001-2017.
Â
Lots of benefits are expected to come out
of implementation of ISO standard 45001 some of them are classified as
following.
Â
High Level Structure: Very importantly
this new standard follows the same High Level Structure and is aligned with ISO
9001, ISO 14001, ISO 27001. All new versions of existing standards as well as
all new standards will follow the same high-level structure
Â
Broader Scope: OSHAS 18001 is
the most widely applied worker safety standard across the world, Gulf Countries
have made it mandatory to implement the OHSAS. Globally with at least 40
international versions currently in place, whereas OSHAS 18001 primarily
focuses on occupational health and safety at the ground level, ISO 45001 (ISO
45001-2017)attempts to integrate similar standards of protection and risk
mitigation at a higher level, one that will affect the larger business
processes. In other words, ISO 45001 (ISO 45001-2017)will act as a natural
corollary to upper-level approaches to business risks of all natures. As a
result, it will be easier to incorporate a top-down safety philosophy.
Â
Ease Of Implementation: ISO/DIS 45001 also
makes significant strides in terms of improving the ease of application of
workplace safety standards. This is achieved by adhering to a simple PDCA
model. This archetypal whose acronym is short for Plan-Do-Check-Act, makes it
easy for an organization to determine the necessary plan for minimalizing risk
of employee harm. This model does not merely focus on worker accidents, but public
shortcoming of past workplace safety standards. it also addresses concerns
covering everything from continuing illness and health issues, to workplace
absences, including psychosocial risk.
Â
Ease of Integration : Recognition Of
Workplace Diversity ISO 45001 (ISO 45001-2017)has been carefully designed to
consider the incredible diversity of workplace models present in the world
today. It is meant to be just as easily applicable to small businesses as to
global corporations. It also recognizes that non-standard employment patterns
are becoming more and more common, and attempts to regulate worker safety in a
way that can be accommodated within any employment framework. In this regard, ISO
45001 (ISO 45001-2017)is a forward-looking standard, one that successfully
marries theory and reality to create a safer work environment for all.
Â
ISO 45001 (ISO
45001-2017)will replace OHSAS 18001 as the internationally acknowledged
standard for Occupational Health and Safety management systems. The
participating members of the ISO committee did not approve the first Draft
International Standard (DIS), causing a delay in its release.
Â
Some of the concerns
of the member bodies disapproving of the DIS version were related to the
following issues:
Â
1.   Â
The changes to the texts that were done during the ISO
editing process.
2.   Â
How the memorandum of understanding between ISO and ILO
and the ILS (International Labor Standards on Occupational Safety and
Health) was taken into account in the DIS ISO 45001.
3.   Â
The discussion and unclearness as to how ISO 45001 (ISO
45001-2017) can require compliance to legal and other requirements under the
ISO general rules.
4.   Â
Discussions around the definition of workers and to what
extent other persons are covered by the Occupational Health and Safety
management system.
Â
It’s not yet certain when ISO 45001 (ISO
45001-2017) will be ready for release, but we expect that same may be done by December
2017 or maximum it may goes upto March 2018, still realistic figure is yet to
come from ISO. TNV will follow the next developments closely and keep our OHSAS
18001 customers up to date on relevant information on Transition to ISO 45001. TNV’s
main focus is to ensure good and accurate information and ensure a smooth transition
from OHSAS 18001 to ISO 45001 (ISO 45001-2017) for our customers when the
standard is released which is expected between July 2017 to December 2017
somewhere.
